Kaupapa Māori for Te Whanau Tokotokorangi Trust is:
First of all, recognising and paying respect to Te Ao Tūārangi who guide us in everything we do.
Our concept of health and well-being not only include an individual’s physical and mental health, but the person’s emotional and spiritual health. This holistic understanding also situates the individual within the context of relationships to family, community, and the environment.
However, as currently practiced, most mainstream health services delivery only addresses a specific symptom of illness, leaving out other important, sometimes instrumental factors that are necessary for good health outcomes.
Therefore, we actively encourage an integrated, holistic wellness model as the pathway to better health outcomes, which leads to healthier individuals & families and healthier communities.
The Trust has adopted the Whare Tapa whā health model as developed by Dr Mason Durie, ensuring a person is assessed in a holistic manner and all dimensions of the model are being observed and addressed.
